With all the dismal news at hand, and being that it's Friday and all, I thought I'd share a bit of joy with our Spridget community today by posting a few photos of what the UPS guy dropped off yesterday.

We got an inkling of what Hap's latest set of HS2s looked like when he posted recently about the billet velocity stacks he's working on (the carbs in these photos are one in the same).

Here, for your viewing pleasure, are those carbs in all their glory. Gonna look real nice on that new 1275...especially with a set of Hap's velocity stacks and K&Ns.

Very nice! I've got a very similar set of Hap-built carbs at home as well, ready to go for when I finally get myself in gear!

beautiful work! any opinions on hap's work vs. curto vs. gillings? I could never match their experience and quality as a do-it-yourself...
 
So Hap,
What is the secret? Or do we need to guess the code on the decoder ring? Or turn around three times and throw salt over our shoulder?

I not familar with Gillings, Joe is the godfather of most all of us SU rebuilder, and good friend, he gets tickled at me, and my obcession for cosmetics, but that's just the way I roll, I think stuff ought to look as good as is works. Joe Curto is who got me into street SU rebuilding, I've been building race carbs for years, but Joe got me into the street building, I build about 50 sets of SUs a years now.

I don't guess there is any secrets, the first step to being a good rebuilder is understsnding how something works, and learn to master it, the SUs are simple carbs, but there's alot more to it than just slapping a rebuild kit to it, you have to learn how to overcome the other than normal problems with the operation of the carb when you hit a wall, and know how to fix it. YOu talking to a guy who has never used a clortune or vacuum gauge to tune a SU, it's all about drop rate and fit and finish, with out this all the fnacy tools in the world won't save you. You have special tools, some of them homemade to do various jobs. I developed a two step media cleaning, that many rebuilders use now. I've purposely avoided tumblers due to the fact they often time change the demesions of the carb parts and can foul up operation. if there is secrte it;s all about fluid movement of all the moving parts and how to achieve that.
 
I am here to tell you that Hap is the MAN! There has been many a time that I have given him a call and asked for advice and/or to pick his brain. I know how busy he can get--he always makes time for a phone call.

Don't let him undersell himself. Experience, talent, and he cares about the people and stuff that leaves his shop is the secret.
