Eye and ears needed for engine tuning

I have completed the rehab of my rocker arm assembly and the following data is supplied to go with the video. The engine starts easily with these settings. What do other eyes and ears tell me I need to do before I install the valve cover and
drive this beast? Valves were gapped at .012 to help get
engine running. Re-gapped to spec .010" All opinions appreciated.
Thanks as always.............dale(tinster)

So I have timing 10* advance at 850 RPM
New Autolite 63 Plugs gapped .030"
Jeff's Points gapped .012"
Valves gapped .010"
New Borg Warner Select coil at 40,000V
New Moss rotor
New 7mm Pep Boys plug wires

Dale,

It sounds good to me. I say put the cover on and hit the road. You can tweak the timing on the fly, but not too far advanced as you well know.

Cool vid and sounds like a sewing machine. Button it up and post a video with rubber on the road.

Is that a B series Head?

<span style="color: #990000">What is a "B" series Don? A guy with a TR250
looked at my engine a while back and told me I had a high
compression head.

I'll prep the valve cover today and put the air filter box
and heat shield back on.

Unless someone hears or spots some error in my video,
I'll install the valve cover tomorrow and take a short test drive.

Thanks all,

From another source, regards to Cygan.
""Circle B" was one of the foundries that cast heads for this engine. The logo is a stylized letter "B" inside a circle not unlike the "at" sign (@).

Heads and blocks were cast at multiple foundries (a business continuity practice).

The urban legend on circle B heads is that the walls if the intake ports were thicker and the ports could be opened up more during porting. They are therefore prized by racers and folks looking to build high performance engines. I say urban legend, because I don't know if this is true. I don't know that it is false either.

I have never seen a later wide spaced port head that was a circle B, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. "

Frankly, I find the overall performance quite predictable...almost mechanical.

Nonetheless, I give it

Next step: :driving:

Dale - It's been years since I ran an engine with the valve cover off. I used to set the valve clearances with the cover off and the engine running hot.

In my recollection, I used to get oil squirting about 6" high all over the place - onto the manifolds, onto the coil and the carbs. That's why I don't do it any more.

Maybe a TR6 is different, but do you have enough lubrication up there ?

Hopefully your engine is OK - like all other TR6 engines and I also hope someone will comment on my fear that you may not be getting enough oil up there.

Or is it that I just can't see it in your very, very nice video.

Don, what you see is what you get on a TR6.

Final fine tuning this morning. Fine tuning everything:
Car starts easily; holds 800 RPM warm idle
I have timing 12* advance ........Autolite 63 Plugs gapped .025"
Points gapped .012" .......Valves gapped at snug .010"
Borg Warner Select coil at 40,000V... ......New Moss rotor & Cond. Can
New 7mm Pep Boys plug wires { is it ready to drive yet?}

Thanks as always,

dale(Tinster)

Don,

My engine does shoot oil up a few inches, BUT.....it is brand new and completely blue printed. As you well know, it should, but prior to that, my 54,000 mile original engine and other TR6's that I've seen are equal to Dale's and they are fine.

I do remember adjusting the valves on Chevy 327's and have to steam clean the engine compartment after I was done. And I had to change shirts, even with the cardboard deflectors all over the engine.

............Looking for test driver or test passenger for a 1969 Triumph TR6 to experience the thrill of twisty mountain roads in beautiful Puerto Rico.

Nice use of the stainless braided hoses Dale!

Now you've got to mount the camera for the mountain tour.

<span style="color: #990000">Yup! Not much left of DPO Pedro's original bucket
of bolts except sheet metal. Probably a few Pedro time bombs will
still turn up. I should be in the street tomorrow. I know- keep
the rpms at 3000 or lower for a while and re-adjust the valves
after a few hundred miles.

thanks,

Great video Dale

Have a question for ya as I am just curious;

I noticed that the port from your valve cover goes directly to your air cleaner box and your vacuum booster line from the intake manifold thus eliminating the PVC

Is there an improvement issue that I may have missed ?

as I said just curios

Thx,

<span style="color: #CC0000">I would have to yes, it's an improvement. For me anyway.
As purchased, the mushroom kept popping out of the intake
manifold and the car stopped instantly. The carbs were shot
as well so I sent manifold and carbs to Jeff Palya. Jeff
eliminated the mushroom and my carbs are fantastic. My car
is a 1969 that previous owners stripped most of the pollution
stuff off. I still have a vacuum retard line but that's about it.

Mr Kodanja sir,

Even experienced mountain climbers need a few
test climbs on boulders, rock cliffs and short
mountains.

Such is the same with a 1969 TR6 reconstructed with
almost all, unproved, replacment parts.
The test drive today went very well.

Now the Boss wants my half of the garage cleaned up
spotless, like hers.

best regards,

dale(Tinster)
