He might mean that the 4 gears plus overdrive is 5 gears.
Maybe so, but...
"THIS IS A RARE AND WINNING CAR IF YOU ARE GOING TO RACE IT!!"
"THIS IS PROBLABLY THE ONLY ONE IN THE COUNTRY."
"LAST MONTH I WENT TO THE FINAL FALL FESTIVAL AT LIME ROCK PARK RACE TRACK AND SAW 2 VERY FAST LATE 70'S GT6's COMPETE AND THEY SOUNDED GLORIOUS AND WERE HARD TO CATCH!"

...so, this car is so rare, that he saw two others roughly in the same area he is, and since THOSE were so fast, then odds are this hunk of junk has the "potential" to also be fast? Strange how he mentioned that he went to such an event and didnt mention how well THAT car did

"FORGET ABOUT THE BODY AND SUPENSION!!!!"
"THE BODY IS ROUGH AND WILL NEED A LOT OF WORK AND WELDING BUT WHERE ELSE ARE YOU GOING TO FIND THIS COMBINATION"

...I can see why youd want us to "forget about" it.

Car had no title, Im surprised he actually has bidders. I am also amazed that it hasnt yet met reserve. Wonder what he thinks its worth. And I wonder why hes selling it (since its so super rare and fast) Arent the 73s considered the slowest of the GT6s?

Re: "Extremely rare" on ebay

Holy Cow! This could actually be the sought after "Holy Grail",Long lost rumored, but undocumented GT6 6speed. Only if you count reverse as a gear. NOT!

Re: "Extremely rare" on ebay

[digression] Wow, that is one pretty -- and RED -- car! I have to laugh, though, at a couple of details in the listing. Notice that most features of the car get 4 out of 5 stars, except the "headlining" (gets 5)! Never mind that there really is NO headlining as such in the folding top.

I also find it amusing that it's "eligible for up to $50,000 in Vehicle Purchase Protection (Not eligible for eBay Buyer Protection)." Great, especially if you ignore the fact that the current bid of $875,100.00 has yet to meet reserve.... [/digression]

But didn't the typical D-type OD gearbox on the small Triumphs work on 3rd and 4th? So it would legitimately be a six-speed.

Quite true, but imagine the snickers if he had advertised it as a six speed. Actually, reading the auction, all he says is it's a rare car. A right hand drive car is rare in the US and GT6's particularly the one's fitted with and an overdrive are not very common so a car with all three of those features I think qualifies as rare.

Why would I want another one of those when the ones I have are nicer? Well, I guess one for each of my kids......... LoL

FWIW:

Ferrari - an occupational surname from the Italian word ferraro, meaning "blacksmith" - originally derived from the Latin ferrum meaning "iron." The Italian equivalent of the surname SMITH.

So scrape the letters of a Mitsubishi, replace the Ferrari letters and tell your insurance company you ACTUALLY drive a Smith! Save a TON of money!!

900K that's about the highest I have ever seen a eBay car bid at.
For me anyway

Really? But Smith is a peasants name! How dare they charge a kings price for a pesants car?!? And Lamborghini... ...its just a tractor company. No wonder they name their cars after bulls... ...Can I hear a yeehaw?

Now $999,900, reserve not met.

I'd love to have the balls to bid it over the 1 mil. Just my luck, the bidding would stop.

Re: "Extremely rare" on ebay

And that would meet the reserve price.

Couldn't help but notice the "get low monthly payments" button under the bid box.

Apparently not as it's now at $2,350,100; reserve not met.

Re: "Extremely rare" on ebay

See you could have made the $1,000,000 bid safely! Care to try for $2,500,000?
