I've never been able to get into that. There are single impressive acts, but most of it is pretty useless and only looks good when it's edited together in a video. In person it's pretty slow and boring actually! But as I said, there are a few things that are very impressive.

If you lookup Parkour and Free Running on Wikipedia it gives a different point of view. It explains more about the origins, philosophy, brief history, etc. Sort of like martial arts.

It think its a really neat idea and I'm thinking to try and integrate some into my exercise - basic rolls, jumps, etc - not much different from tumbling. Could be really useful should I trip and fall down the stairs some day - like martial arts training could be really useful should someone attack you some day.

I hope he is looking for work as a stuntman.

I agree with that, however not on a public or private building. There is the opportunity of falling and injuring an innocent person passing by. I wonder how a business owner would feel if they decided that his building would be a great place to do Parkour - walls and rails having to constantly cleaned because of skuff-marks.

Kind of like skate boarding - I'm all for it at a skate park or on the street. However, when they start using my benches or rails in front of my business for stunts - crack the front glass from runaway boards - I'm left with the bills - over and over - not too keen on that.

Some of them do. If you’ve seen Casino Royal, the chase scene on the cranes is a good example.

Wasn't that one of the guys who INVENTED it in the first place?

That I couldn't say. I'm not into it enough to recognize free runners. The stuntman could also look completely different for the movie with hair and makeup. I’ve seen some pretty amazing transformations in person. Eddie Murphy in the Nutty Professor was flawless, even from a few feet away the makeup looked real.

I would think that Jackie Chan "invented" it (while performing his own stunts for his movies) long before anyone thought to take this sort of stuff up as a sport.

Re: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EXtD84xVaM&mod

That’s funny Rob. I was going to mention Jackie, but went to get coffee instead. If you watch the out takes for “Rumble in the Bronx” or “Supercop” you’ll get an idea of the injuries even a man who has been doing that sort of thing all his life will get. That one stunt (Supercop?) where he jumps from a parking structure over an alley, lands on a fire escape and somersaults into a door is phenomenal. He did need a cast on his ankle from that though.

Re: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EXtD84xVaM&mod

yup! i remember seeing that in the out takes. That and how they made the cast look like a sneaker... albeit a seriously overgrown sneaker but a sneaker none the less /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
