TR6 Extreme difficulty in shifting into Reverse?

What are the possible issues that would cause this problem? Asking for a friend who recently bought a TR6.

Most of the time it would be a dragging clutch...if it grinds when going into reverse. If there is no grinding, and it just feels like you're hitting a stop, then the teeth are worn/chipped.

Have him try to lift the gear shifter up from neutral before finding Reverse.

Probably need to adjust the horizontal position of the shift lever via the 2 screw bolts either side.

I know on my TR3 (with TR6 gearbox when I fit the 3/4" piece of rubber hose on the stick shift ,as others have done to prevent gear shift rattle, it was very hard to get the shifter in reverse. I'm thinking maybe the PO did that mod and that's the issue? Can the gaiter and rubber boot type grommets be removed without removing the carpet on the gearbox on a TR6?

It eventually goes into gear and does not stop just a great deal of effort to do that. Shifts fine thru all the other gears.
