Exploding gas cans

"You can't fix stupid."

comedian Ron White

Does that mean that if I use a match to check & see if there's
any gas in the tank,& it explodes,I can sue the car company (& win),
because there wasn't a warning label telling me that would happen?
And just who can I sue for all of the stupid things that I've done
while working on cars?

I reacll some time back, on this forum, there was a picture of a milk carton label from England, that said" Caution, contains dairy. I would love it if it could be reposted.

Did I mention lawyers.

The nation’s largest retailer, Wal-Mart, has agreed to contribute about $25 million to settle unresolved lawsuits filed on behalf of consumers allegedly injured or killed in explosions involving portable plastic gas cans, according to court documents obtained by NBC News.

The money from Wal-Mart amounts to slightly more than 15 percent of a proposed $161 million fund that would settle dozens of lawsuits against the largest manufacturer of these cans, Blitz USA, records from U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware show. A hearing on the proposed settlement is set for early next year.

An interesting question: Was anything actually found to be defective in the manufacture of those gas cans?

tort reform!!

We all know what the main problem is, LAWYERS!! PJ

Don't be too quick to bash lawyers. There are many professional lawyers that are there when WE need them.

That is correct. However we are unable to even turn on the TV without seeing a commercial for the ones we don't like. One if the most obnoxious ones around here is done by a "disabled" public servant who became a lawyer and still collects his disability pension from the city. A city that recently went through bankruptcy.

Yeah, for 60-75% of your settlement, this INCLUDES lost wages AND medical bills; as in YOUR money you would have gotten ALL OF (wages) and takes part of what you owe forcing you to use whatever else you got to cover it. I've got no problem with them getting paid, just make the party at fault pay for them, not the victim.

It's not like anyone is trying to save you money by a quick settlement. Things get drawn out on purpose to run up hours. I've had several lawyers say no matter what, expect five years to settle a case as they milk it for all they can. Last one we did was three, and this was after it had already been proven to be a clerical error. (deed)

The whole thing is a racket, things are written in legalese so regular folks can't understand them. I've had a lawyer tell me that too. The legal system is stacked against those not involved in the judicial system. If you don't know the "secret handshake" you're screwed.

Traffic court is a prime example, hire a lawyer, he walks up, says nothing and it gets thrown out. Don't hire representation and you sing and dance and still have to pay a fine and "court costs". WTH are those, am I not guaranteed a fair and speedy trial? Where does it say it's going to cost me personally, isn't that what taxes are for? Bottom line, it's exstortion no matter how you look at it. For a fee you can plea...cause it's all about the money and winning cases...not justice...

:eagerness: I agree Billy, lawyers are the biggest leeches in our society. Not all are bad, but the vast majority don't seem to be in it to help people.

tort reform!!!

NOW!!!

Thats as bad as the idiot who sued the dog owner for getting bit.He climbed over the fence and was beating the dog which was on a chain in its own yard.He won the law suit

A couple of years ago my neighbor had his new car parked in his own driveway. The kid next door to him climbed on top of it and danced around doing significant damage. Then he fell off and broke his leg. Guess who got sued and lost for having an attractive nuisance on his property. 90% of all lawyers give the rest of them a bad name.
