TR2/3/3A Experience with repro cylinderhead

Hallo there,

I am rebuilding my TR3As engine and found leckage in the cylinder head between the water side and the cylinder 2 exhaust channel- some crack inside the head. So probably hard or impossible to repair - No big thing, just leaking little water onto the exhaust valve an limiting the water level....

As this head already had some cracks repaired I would prefer to discard it now.

So apart from finding some used head and rebuild it the alternative is the cylinder head produced by Moss - Has anybody out there some experience with using this head?
I would go for the cast iron version, not the Aluminium one and the goal is to get a reliable engine for fast motoring, not racing.

Thanks in advance

Johannes - TS27952 LO

I bought the aluminum head when they first came out, and haven't had any issues. But I don't do a lot of miles a year.

@ Peter:
Thank you !

@ Darrell:
Why did you go for Aluminium? I would guess, that the cast iron version should be more robust, same thermal expansion and a true copy of the original.

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

I was interested in the lighter weight, and better resistance to knock.

I was going to comment that, if you want cast iron, the originals are available for nearly free. Then I see you are in Frankfurt...so may not be that case over there. Still, if you are interested in the iron heads, I would think you could get a good used one shipped for what a new one will run.
