I'm cleaning up the ex manifold which is in really good shape except for the fact the studs are striped out but not broken. I was able to get 2 of them out of the manifold but the remaining are stuck even after 3 days of soaking in pb blaster.

Any good tricks to getting stuck studs out?
 
"Sprag". A few cycles of real heat and PB Blaster to precede use.
 
Weld a nut to the end of the stud, and use real heat. It should spin right out. The nut gives you a convenient purchase point for a wrench or socket.

yeah, you could weld a nut to it. If you don't have a welder, you could chase the threads and jamb 2 nuts together and use a wrench
 
I usually double nut them and use a wrench on the back one to get them out. As others have said, use a real creeping penetrant and heat (MAPP, oxy/acet). If stripped, use a large vice grip with gradual torque. Should spin out eventually. Repeat the soak/heat/soak(pssssssssssstt) process over a few days.

I've never had an issue with an exhaust stud, only thermo housing studs that rusted the "waist" away and twisted off.
 
I did the two nuts thing recently and it works great. I like the weld a nut idea if you happen to own one.

I was going to do that. Even drove over to the shop poped the back hatch and DOH the manifold was still in the garage. If I cant get them out I'll drop it off on monday. I need to talk to the guy about engine work anyways.

Apple Hydraulics charged me precisely $7 to extract a thermo stud that was snapped off flush with the head. I probably spent four hours trying to get it out.

They did charge me several hundred bucks to install hardened exhaust valve seats, so they made it up elsewhere.
 
When I was a kid, the blue Healey in my profile was my father's. It sat in our garage for years because of a "broken exhaust manifold stud." (Quotes because I didn't know what this meant, and it took on a mythical meaning. "Oh no! A frozen manifold stud. It must be serious!") Now I have a deep fear of frozen exhaust manifold studs. Don't break it!
 
Done and picked up. They said it would be a few days but called 5min after I posted. They were nice enough to chase the threads. So 2 jobs done 5.25^258 to go.
 
to the 263rd power. It's a project car for sure. Right now its take one step forward and 3 steps back trip and then stumble a dozen or so more. Poor thing should be a case study for DPO's. I'm seriously thinking that I'm going to get a IH8DPOS licence plate for it.
 
Go for half-full: you have a "mostly there" car which will be saved from further insult for you or someone else to enjoy and use for years to come.
