TR6 exhaust manifold TR6

Is there a significant difference between the early single pipe exhaust manifold and later dual pipe exhaust manifolds for the six? What I'm interested in are the ports for the two manifolds. I have a '71 six with the single pipe that is in rebuild. Rather than attempt to derust and drill out the broken exhaust flange studs I'm considering switching to the later manifold with the dual pipe flange to gain the extra exhaust flow. Any comments are welcome and those of you promoting headers go ahead and give me your thoughts.
