Looking at my manifold I was thinking of sand blasting it as it is kind of rusty.

Should I paint it with manifold paint? What colour would be correct if I were to paint it?

David

David,
I sand blasted mine and then painted it with a silver high temp ( manifold) paint.
tThe TRA RESTORATION STANDARDS says the exhaust system on the Original cars were painted black but later changed the color to dull silver. Apparently this was done to keep them from rusting during preassembly storage.

Sorry it's a little fuzzy but this is what mine looks like after a using a wire wheel on the grinder then spray cleaned with carb cleaner (it's what I already had on hand) then a good rinse. Used rubber gloves to handle after that and sprayed a couple light coats of VHT flame proof primer followed by a couple light coats and one medium coat of VHT flame proof sp998 they call cast iron grey.. had a gas oven in the shed I hooked up a 20 gal propane tank to and cooked it per instructions on the can. Matches the intakes pretty well..will it hold up..who knows...

David,
I took a different approach and soaked mine in undiluted SuperClean from Walmart to degrease and remove old paint followed by a soak in Evaporust which removed all the rust. I used VHT cast aluminum ceramic paint and baked it per the directions on the can, but you can just run the engine and get the same result. This one is on my MGB and it's 3 years old and looks the same as when I first painted it.

Thank you Dash, Tush and Rut for the info and photos. They look good.

Wanted to make sure that I was headed in the right direction with the manifold. Have to visit A.Z. when I get back home. Working out of town for a few weeks to get TR money.
