Exhaust junction location

When I had a new muffler placed several years back, it appears the muffler guy welded everything together, so the only place I can disconnect the exhaust system is right at the manifold/exhaust pipe junction. I want to remove my muffler to repaint it and clean up the underside of my spare tire well. Any recommendations on where to make the cut and place a flex pipe junction?
