Hello all,
For those already following my saga – you know that I’ve been trying to get my 78B (with it's Zenith-Stromberg set-up), ready to go in for it’s Bi-annual (every two years) smog test. The thing to remember is that to meet Californias stiff standards I must retain all emissions equipment. So consider this new post a follow-up to the one concerning my bewilderment regarding problems with the Exhaust manifold to Catalytic converter gaskets and why I was burning them up.
Anywaty I think I found out what the problem was with the gaskets I tried to use earlier that keep on blowing out shortly after I replaced them. Today I recived my new catalytic converter. The new cat came with it’s own gasket and upon seeing this - I knew right away what the problem was. Figured you might want to see this one for yourself. Please review the attached photo. Note that the two gaskets on the right came Victoria British and my Moss distributor. While the one on the left is what came supplied with the new Cat.
The differences are the little metal ring and the tougher gasket material used. What a bonehead I’ve been!
The next question is: How can VB & Moss bother to sell these gaskets if they don’t work?
