Ever Hear Of A Veep?

So many times I have to ask myself..........why? Just because something can be done, should it be done?

I'm with Dave on this one, this is a rather puzzling vehicle, I'm not even sure what the point is...

It is no longer 4-wheel drive. Jeep's running gear is some of the best for off-road use.

Why have a Jeep that has to stay on paved roads? I don't see the point of doing this downgrade conversion.

It must of seemed like a good idea at the time... to someone, somewhere, for some reason.... :nonono:

I've always been suprised at how capable Bugs were off-road, but really....
that just dosen't make sense. I think most Marines would want to scrape the "USMC" off the hood of that thing if they knew what it was.
~edit~
To be honest, it's probably a lot more streetable than it was with the original Jeep drive gear. those Willys never did go much faster than 45, and got abysmal gas mileage, even by 70s standards (when the ad says it was built)
It'd be intresting to give it a highway run.

I still have my info plate from my old 46 cj2a. It had the maximum speeds listed for each gear combination... Started at 2mph for 1st gear and 4L, and ended at 60mph in 2H in high gear (3rd I think). I'm sure that was redlining it on each also. That low end was ridiculous though. I moved it around the yard a few times using just the starter motor

In original configuration, restored, that Jeep would be worth 3 times what he's asking for it. But of course, that's over as it's just a curiosity now. With the talent it took to do this, it's a shame it wasn't put to some more useful enterprise. But, to each his own! To a VW restorer, those early hubs are probably worth a fortune.

why?
