I seem to be caught in a cultural shift. Once all the toys I had were British, now there are four German cars hanging out here.
To be fair, the Porsche was always supposed to be a flip. I was a bit smitten by it, and had all but decided to keep it, but then I stumbled across one of my long term goals for sale in Watkins Glen.
I swear, It found me!!!

Say hello to Clementine. a 1974 VW Westfailia Campmobile Deluxe.

Quite the equitable trade, Ben. Looks to be intact as well. Any rust issues there?

"Cultural shift", right... Probably ok to smoke the weed you find in it, but I wouldn't take the pills. Ok, maybe just cut one in half and try that first...

Mehehehehe! It did come with a Phish sticker in the back window. Are there any VW busses in the U.S. without a jam-band sticker?
Doc, This thing is amazingly rust free. It's the only reason I had to get it. I was amazed at the shape it was in when I went to look at it. Every other one I've come across has been either a rot-bomb, or the owner wants a fortune.
Story on this one is it spent a good portion of it's life in Kentucky

The Kettle is definitely ...... Black!

Hmm Clementine, it certainly has a peel.

well bought!

Nice!

I have a pal with a VR6 powered Westy. Quick!

I drove a '64 red-and-white Splitty to college in the late 60s (stereotypical......yes, I know).

When the original 52 HP engine, puked, my Dad and I put an old 36 HP in it. It soldiered on (slowly) for another few years.

Guilty........:rolleye:

Heard on the radio, today (31st) is the last day of production for the mini van.

Good to see you happy with a new toy. I'm not a fan of them, unsafe seating, underpowered overheated valve burner/eaters and head stud pullers.

A VR6 powered one... now you're talking. :encouragement:

Dump everything else and stick with the E30 with an S52 swap Ben.

I hear ya...... Aint gonna happen. The E30 is a great car, but it just doesn't pull my trigger. I could take it or leave it. I liked the Porsche, but I'm happy to pass that on to have the Bus.
Ya gotta remember I'm in a much cooler climate. the engine may do better around here. Worst case, there are some really well done Subaru engine swaps to copy from. For now I'll likely search out an extra T4 motor to have on standby.
this is a 74 so it has the added crash framing under the front, (I'll still be the first on the scene of the accident), and it's something I like so much, I'll accept the risk.

I think the older they get the more appealing they are. I wouldn't put anything but the original type engine in any of them although tricked out on someone else's budget would be nice.
If it's a VR6 you want just get a Transporter:
