I just learned that many of the "familiar" supply houses have been selling the wrong tie rod ends for the Series 1 EType. I replaced mine a few years ago and now I'm concerned that I may have the wrong ones. Read all about it
 
All you can do is disassemble it and measure, unfortunately. And perhaps talk to the guys at XK's Unlimited.
 
After screwing the tie-rods on the steering ends, did you have any trouble getting the tie-rod end into the upright bracket hole without having to jack up the upright? If it popped right in and you could start the lock nut, you probably have the good ones. If you had to jack up the upright to get it started, they're probably the bad ones. That really stresses the steering rack when the car is jacked up.

Some after market shocks have slightly different lengths, so a longer shock will make the good tie-rods a little tough to put on. The shocks limit the downward angle of the steering arm end and on to the tie-rod end angle.

And,yes. They were a problem when they came out for the XKE.
