Etching aluminum a must.

After removing paint mostly by hand on the underside of a aluminum MGB hood I thought I would post this. Not only did this process take allot of good energy it could have been avoided had someone sprayed $10 of aluminum etch before painting. Now all the finish needs to be redone. A one part etch I like is made by Marhyde, no mixing just shake and spray a one part product. All raw aluminum will need this for anything to stick.

West Marines web site says it still sells Zink Chromate at $14.00 a can. And they say they have it in stock. We used it exclusively as a prep for aircraft aluminum. Used on jet fighters, it didn't come off during high speed flight. Supposedly taken off the market because of the name (Chromate), it might still be available through some channels. I understand it is still sold for commercial applications.
