Epic Battle on My Street Last Night

All of which will open you up to a lawsuit by intentionally installing something that will knowingly severly damage someone's vehicle.

"A hazzard to traffic".

Then how do people get away with installing these?

I see bricked in/stoned in mailboxes all the time...

Even w/o I-beams in them those would have to do some pretty severe damage to an automobile...

Wish I could, but don't have the room as a culvert starts right behind it.
Also it is a major thorough fair now, wasn't when I moved in.

There are all sorts of hard objects installed next to the road with no fear of lawsuits. Fire plugs and telephone poles come to mind.

Actually, those you speak of are usually off the road several feet

Not suppose to be in the right of way

They "get away" with it till someone smacks it and sues them.

Don,

Acutally most telephone/utility poles are in the road right-of-way. Any pole replacements are to placed as close to the edge of the right-of-way as feasable.

But the poles are privately owned by the placing utility.

My prior career was as an outside plant engineer/project manager for our local telephone company.

Now that's the best idea yet. They got a bunch just sitting on the freeway in a pretty row. Not doing anything

One of these might scare drivers away.... the hardest part is convincing Mrs. K.

Talk to your letter carrier. You MIGHT be able to relocate your box out of harms way, or maybe just in a different place not as apt to got hit. I'll bet they are just as tired of it as you are. Believe me I know. As far as the tougher mailboxes, I've seen several companies make boxes from steel at least 1/8 in thick mounted on large box beams or in brick pillars at several bad curves. No one messed with them yet.

reminds my of my uncle's dad. Mounted his mailbox to a steel pipe he welded into an old steel hay rake wheel. The next time the local kid decided to hit it with their jeep, they got a big suprise.

And those nice people with the yellow vests that say DOT might just help you move one or two if you ask VERY nicely!!
