I've been trying to find a hat I like. Upon Tony's sugestion, I tried a Greek fishermen's cap. I liked it, but to me, it made me look like an Ellis Island reject from the early 1900's. Kelly said it aged me ten years.
So, I figured I have another 10 years till I can wear one.
A baseball cap just doesn't feel right in my car. I haven't really found a BB cap I like either, except my LSU cap. Kelly's folks met there, Kelly went there, her cousin was supposedly LSU's best pitcher ever, but it still isn't something that feels like "me". I'm not a hat guy.
In the past, a old neighbor always kidded me that I didn't have the "right" cap for driving the Midget. I haven't really seen an English driving cap I liked. To me, it has always been an older man's cap. I had a few friends 20+ years ahead of me that wore them.
I've tossed the idea back and forth about an English cap for quite some time. I've always had turbulence problems with the BB cap and wanted a solution. I was also concerned my wife wouldn't like me in an English driving cap, so I never tried one.
I'm a very practical person. I'm more of a function over form kinda guy, but I really like my form too. I've often wondered, "I wonder if thid cap was designed this way for a reason?" I have an English car; they make an English driving cap; it only makes sense that wearing an English cap in an English car is the right solution.
The problem with that thought is, I don't wan to appear to be a poser with my English cap in my English car. Kinda like the guys who wear chaps on motorcycles when jeans or leather pants will do.
So....I'm in Target yesterday looking for picnic blankets when I pass the hat section. It appears, that besides the Fedora, the English driving cap is hip right now.
I proceed to try some on. Lotta differnt style and materials. Even a Guiness one ( would REALLY feel like a poser then). Finally, I come across ONE English plaid patchwork cap that fits PERFECT, feels "right" and.........it's on clearance!
I tried it out today and MAN, this thing works great! Almost zero turbulence. I can look in any direction without fear of it blowing back or off. It's perfect.
When you stop to think about wind direction in a topless car, the hat makes perfect aerodynamic sense.
AND......I'm one of the ten out of 100,000 people who actually have a ~reason~ to wear it!
I might not agree with the English when it come to electrical circuit design, but the guys do know what's up with caps! :thumbsup:
