I'd just like to introduce myself. Im Dave from Yorkshire, England.
I drive a 1974 mk1 escort, affectionately known as escRot.
Its come a long way in the last 3years, but theres still alot to do (isn't there always)

Anyway, Il post some pics up when I get home tonight.

Cheers, Dave

Welcome aboard, Dave!!!

Yes, DO post pix! You lucky guy. We don't even have the opportunity to get our hands on ROTbox MK-I Escorts here! My eeevile plan has always been to stuff one of my "spare" Lotus engines in one.
Terrorise th' natives an' all that, y'see.

Hello Dave! Welcome to the mad-house. The Mk1 has many fans here, although you are, I believe, the only member who has one.

As the good Doctor has stated, they didn't bring them over to this side of the pond, although being a fellow Brit I remember them well. Pictures would be greatly appreciated. Which configuration does it have?

Howdy Dave,

"Welcome" from NE PA. Please do post some pics cause personally, I have no idea what your car looks like!??!?!?!??!??

Thanx, Russ

Anther Brit in exile here - welcome! Memories of Roger Clark and the Motor Club back home when I think of Mk1 Escorts.

Welcome!

I just sold my US-built (front drive) Escort race car (but I may still drive it from time to time).

-CLICK HERE- to see it. I always called it "The Red Pig". US-built Escort are fairly unloved, but mine was actually great fun to drive.

We have one Brit-built Escort Twin-Cam that races here in our vintage club.

By the way, I was born in Leeds (but have been in the US for over 40 years).

Love to see some snaps of your car.

Hello Dave :savewave: and welcome!!

Thanks for the warm reception folks.
I suppose it'd be worthwhile to give you a brief rundown of what I've done over the last 3 and a bit years.

I bought escRot in March 2006, on a bit of a whim to be honest, but I had wanted one since working on a '70 red 2dr 1300gt whilst being working as apprentice mechanic.
I didn't know of the motorsport heritage (and the associatied costs..!) but I liked the shape and the simplicity.

I've got some pics (although none of them very flattering...)

First and foremost, this is what it looked like when I rounded the corner a first saw it

Needless to say, the awful sunstrip and ragged Starmags didn't last long.

On the North Yorkshire moors, it was about here that we figured that the lowly 1100 is underpowered for todays traffic

I got that figure from a RollingRoad day that I attended with

and to be fair, since the above work early last year, Ive done very little, oh wait thats not strictly true..
I was becoming quite, erm whats the word, bored I suppose, with the power (or lack of) from the 1100, so I tasked myself with bulding the next engine. I bought a box of bits that were originally a mk2 Cortina 1600e lump. After a good check over and clean, I had the block taken out to 1660 and fitted 1300 hi-comp pistons, Kent BFC2 cam kit, electronic ignition and hi-capacity oil pump and duplex timing gear - amongst other goodies. Its the first lump Ive built, and so far Ive done 10k in it with nothing but a couple of teething troubles (playing round with the fueling, and timing) and popping a couple of gearboxes - but that was always going to happen with 3times the power. Good job Ive got no grip eh?

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing. I particularily liked the engine bay photo with the exposed cam gears and belt. Puts me in mind of the Lotus 907.
