I'd just like to introduce myself. Im Dave from Yorkshire, England.
I drive a 1974 mk1 escort, affectionately known as escRot.
Its come a long way in the last 3years, but theres still alot to do (isn't there always)

Hello Dave! Welcome to the mad-house. The Mk1 has many fans here, although you are, I believe, the only member who has one.

As the good Doctor has stated, they didn't bring them over to this side of the pond, although being a fellow Brit I remember them well. Pictures would be greatly appreciated. Which configuration does it have?

I just sold my US-built (front drive) Escort race car (but I may still drive it from time to time).

-CLICK HERE- to see it. I always called it "The Red Pig". US-built Escort are fairly unloved, but mine was actually great fun to drive.

We have one Brit-built Escort Twin-Cam that races here in our vintage club.

By the way, I was born in Leeds (but have been in the US for over 40 years).

I suppose it'd be worthwhile to give you a brief rundown of what I've done over the last 3 and a bit years.

I bought escRot in March 2006, on a bit of a whim to be honest, but I had wanted one since working on a '70 red 2dr 1300gt whilst being working as apprentice mechanic.
I didn't know of the motorsport heritage (and the associatied costs..!) but I liked the shape and the simplicity.

I've got some pics (although none of them very flattering...)

First and foremost, this is what it looked like when I rounded the corner a first saw it

On the North Yorkshire moors, it was about here that we figured that the lowly 1100 is underpowered for todays traffic

So I started to put a plan in place, I purchased these

and to be fair, since the above work early last year, Ive done very little, oh wait thats not strictly true..
I was becoming quite, erm whats the word, bored I suppose, with the power (or lack of) from the 1100, so I tasked myself with bulding the next engine. I bought a box of bits that were originally a mk2 Cortina 1600e lump. After a good check over and clean, I had the block taken out to 1660 and fitted 1300 hi-comp pistons, Kent BFC2 cam kit, electronic ignition and hi-capacity oil pump and duplex timing gear - amongst other goodies. Its the first lump Ive built, and so far Ive done 10k in it with nothing but a couple of teething troubles (playing round with the fueling, and timing) and popping a couple of gearboxes - but that was always going to happen with 3times the power. Good job Ive got no grip eh? :lol:

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing. I particularily liked the engine bay photo with the exposed cam gears and belt. Puts me in mind of the Lotus 907.
