An Engineer had been out of work for a long time. He was beginning to despair, when he saw an ad for an accountant. He thought “I work with numbers all the time. How hard can accounting be?” So he went for an interview.
As he sat in the waiting room, he noticed dozens of other engineers also waiting to be interviewed for the accounting job. His heart sank. However, the interview went very well, so he was feeling optimistic. Just as he was getting up to leave, the interviewer asked “How much is 6 + 7?”
The engineer panicked. He didn’t have his graphing calculator – what was he to do? He thought for a moment and said “Twelve”.
He rushed home, grabbed his calculator and was dismayed to see the answer was 13. He figured he’d completely blown it.
The next day he got a call and was offered the job. “But I got the question wrong” he blurted.
The interviewer replied, “Yeah, but you were the closest.”
