I am trying to see if anyone could answer my questions. I have posted the same questions in the spriget section but no one has responded. Maybe you guys can help. Should two of the push rods be sticking out more than the others, preventing the rocker shaft assembly form sitting flush with the cylinder head? (65-1275 motor)

This would be determined by the position of the cam lobe on the lifter . If you rotate the engine slightly it will go down but of course others will rise. Can you loosen the lock nut and loosen the adjuster on the rocker arms? All the push rods should be the same length. Are the lifters the same length?

What do you mean by "Preventing the rocker shaft assembly from setting flush with the cylinder head" ??. Is the engine runing??--Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

As the rocker shaft assembly is lower in to the cylinder head, Two of the push rods stick more than the others and these two push rods make contact first with there respected rockers and so the assembly has a gap between the bottom of it and the cylinder head.

Well it does not sound right to me. All the rocker assemblies I am familiar with the supports set flush on the cylinder head. You might check those two push rods against the others to see if the lengths are the same as well as the screw adjuster's in the rockers. If all match up, then back off all the screw adjusters and carefully rotate the engine by hand and see if all the shaft supports do not set correctly.---Keoke-?

following the same thought as T.H. ..

did you pull up or remove those pushrods at some point? thinking you may have pulled the tappets out of their bore (suction effect of pushrod end/oil/tappet can do this). Does this motor have tappet covers, easily removed to see if the tappets are seated properly?

Actually I got to work by tighten the bolts in the correct order. But now I another question. What are the four black rubber tubes that come with the head gasket set? (see link below)

head gasket

Good show VV. Regarding the four black tubes in the kit I suspect they are the oil seals to be installed on the intake valves.---Fwiw--Keoke-?

The rubber tubes are the valve stem seals for the four inlet valves. To replace those seals, you have to remove the valve springs and collars on the inlet valves, you will need a valve spring compressor tool to do that.

Thanks for that Tomas591, with the head installed he will probably have to pressurise each cylinder to do that or the valve will fall into the cylinder.---Keoke

He could take the plugs out and stuff string into the cylinders, then turn the engine over so the string holds the valve up! I've done it!

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif we will see what he wants to do if its the rope trick I will leave it up to you to esplain. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif --Keoke- :G----------------- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thankyousign.gif

Make sure you have proper clearance when the lifter is on the low side of the cam ( valve closed no tension)
Did you have the rocker arm assembly off to rebuild it or ??? I assume this engine has solid lifters is this correct? Is the adjustment screw and lock nut on the rocker arm or is it on the lifter ? I've seen some on the lifter but I can't remember what car it was . Maybe old chevy 6 cyl or old flat head 6 plymouth.. lotta years has passed.BR1

Victor, is someone watching over your shoulder while you're doing this work? You might want to have someone lend you a hand...FWIW If it were me, I'd be paying someone else, so I could watch over THEIR shoulder!

The only reason Iam doing this myself, is because my Neighbor was suppose to do it for me at a price but now he just left everything above the cylinder head in the trunk. For some reason unknown to me he stopped working on the car. Now I'll try it myself. P.S I'am an amateure!
