TR4/4A Engine transportation?

Hi all,

I am getting ready to take my engine to my mechanic for an inspection and fix. Any advice on how to best transport the engine? Right now the engine is on a stand, but I don't think the four bolts holding the engine to the stand are strong enough to bounce around on the drive to the mechanic.

I was thinking of building some sort of "rack" with 2x4s.

Thoughts? Pictures?

Thanks!

Big old spare tire (no rim)....stick it in the middle... lean it over so its resting on the manifold side ( I am assuming that you will be removing the exhaust/carbs?)

Cheers

I did both those, laid it on a tire and strapped it to a pallet.

If you already have the pallet lying in the truck bed or trailer the engine hoist can lay it right on there.

That engine (not a TR) crossed the country like that, but even for driving across town it is easy enough to make it very secure.

Our Ace hardware (and possibly yours) were happy to give me one of their pallets.

Thanks! (And I just so happen to have five old tires on my TR4A, i.e. the one that's being restored.)

I built a box out of 2x6s a bit larger than the oil pan and just set the engine inside and strapped it down in my pickup. Worked fine for the 50-mile trip.

This is probable over kill for a trip across town. I built this stand so that I could run the engine and also have the gearbox attached. It makes it easier to move it ariund as I work on the frame and body.
It is built from scrap 4 x 4s
