I am a novice and would rather ask stupind qustions than shoot myself in the foot so Two questions concerning an engine/tranny install onto a replacement frame.

1) Upon installing the two together(with new mounts) it appears that the tranny mounting holes do not line up. the tranny seems to extend past mounting holes on plate by around 1/2" What to do???

2) Without doing damage to my engine, What testing can I do to verify engine rebuild and to verify oil pump is engaged???

I assume it's for your TR3? Check the front engine mounting plate for straightness. The plate may be sagged(bent) forward causing the engine to be mounted too far back on it's mount there by causing the tranny mounts not to align and be to far back. If you look at the left side of the engine mount check too see that the plate the mount attaches too is straight off the front of the motor block. If the plate is bent it can be straightened on the engine cold very slowly and carefully. Some have purposely (not recommended)bent this to align the hole for the hand crank or the plate bends by itself after the mounts have disentegrated and turned to jello. You may also simply need to shim the front mounts.

Some use a high speed drill attached to the distributor oil pump drive shaft to build up and determine if oil pressure is present. I on the other hand just remove the plugs and crank it over with the starter button. Lately though I just start it up and keep a close eye on the pressure gauge.

If you are installing a TR4 (or later) gearbox in TR3, it will be a little longer and you will have to elongate the holes in the gearbox mounting bracket a little to make it work. Just double check that there is no binding on the driveshaft, but that really shouldn't be a problem since the splines have quite a bit of play in them that should compensate.

The engine and trans were in my TR3A before resto (tranny is a TR4). Everything is same except replacement frame and all new mounts.
