Engine Startup After Rebuild Video

Sounds good Michael, will it be powering you to Road America and the Conclave 2024 In Wisconsin this September?

Where did you get the oil filler cap? Looks great on the alloy valve cover.

Mike--

Source long forgotten but if you search around looking for "fly-off oil filler cap" or the like you'll eventually find something.

It looks similar though I don't think that is the exact item. Mine has a spigot though again I bought this item around 20 years ago and had someone weld it in for me.

I'm recovering from pneumonia and just havent had the energy to sit at a computer and search but I know you'll find one to your liking if you spend 15-20 minutes crawling around online.

Good luck.

Yikes. Hope you are feeling better, Michael. I talked with the folks at AH Spares and it looks like the flip-cap that they have for a six cylinder Healey will work on the BN2.

My valve cover is of course not stock but thaty in and of itself should niot be issue. if the AH Spares unit works well for you go for it.

I have a 9 Fin alloy cover like yours that I would like to install. I haven't liked most of the oil filler cap options until I saw the one on yours. I'll let you know how it goes.
Mike

Michel,
I see that you added a pipe to the side of the alloy valve cover to vent fumes into the cold air box. Do you happen to have a picture of how that was handled on the inside of the valve cover? On the factory valve cover, there is a recess in the top of the cover that the tube bends into that helps keep from oil being pulled directly into the vent tube. Just interested in how that was handled on yours so that I can explain to the machine shop.
Thanks again.

Mike--

Because my car is off at a shop (and I'm still housebound) I'm working from memory, but I believe I simply drilled the valve cover for a barbed fitting and ran a piece of hose to the nipple on the CAB. I don't think you should have to worry about excessive oil unless your rocker shaft needs a rebuild.

It won't be installed until the engine is back in the bay but I recently purchased a PCV kit from Michael Salter (> Austin Healey 100 Engine Oil Leak Solution – Precision Sportscar <) which vents any oil blow-by, etc. back into the engine intake and elinates running a hose into the CAB.

I see you painted your cylinder head. It looks good!

Yes. It now looks like a non-AL head--fake originality to the untrained eye!
Conversely, for the price of a rattle can of AL paint one can brag on their DW head and all of the performance gains, etc.--a poseur's paradise!

Hope you are feeling better. Were you pleased with the work done by Proper Noise?

Thanks Mike--I'm doing better. The car is still in the shop in PA probably a month from finished and I'm in MD but from all the pics I've seen their work looks great.
