I went down to Harbor Freight & bought some of those big furniture dollies for a few bucks each...bolted a 2x6 across the front & a 4x4 across the rear...MGB & Midget engines sit nice & level (as does my Rover V8 engine)

The furniture dollies are what I've used for years too. Cheap, and no engineering to speak of. Have three in use right now. One 2L Alfa, one MGB block, one Lotus T/C. Notch out a couple of 2x4's for the particular engine and it's a done deal... But then I like the "easy way out" most times. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

so do I most of the time but in this case cheap came first as I had all the stuff lying around, and it keeps SWHTM happy

Here's one I made of wood. 3/4 inch plywood base on 4 swivel wheels with 2 x 6 uprights. Its 24 inches long and about 12 inches wide between uprights. The uprights are 6 inches shorter than the base to allow the backplate/ bellhousing room to sit on it too. Screwed together.

I'd first used it to hold both engine and transmission from a big Healey and it rolled quite easily even under that much weight.

James! I see your problem from the picture: You've only five cylinders, Mon!

nah, that's just one of the heads from his v-10 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep. I have a H-F engine dolly, but the thing is huge... so I screwed together some peices of 2x10 into a cart just big enough for the engine and stuck some casters under it. It ain't pretty, but since the engine doesn't move very often, it works well.

Found an old chicken rotisserie set that I bolted onto an old Radio Flyer wagon. For added support, I outfitted the wagon with a set of "UNDO" wheels...fancy suckers from an expendable Lotus to chariot the beast. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

GAWD... So now there are a few less Elite "Basket Wheels" inna shed... I'd no CLUE she'd been slopin' about in there.

I'm beginning to get scared now... I better find it afore she does or she'll turn it into a rolling seweing machine table or somethin'!
