Merry Christmas Ho Ho Ho

I think my TR6 engine "might" be ready for
a drive longer than 30 miles. I'd like to drive
the mountain peaks.

I finished installing the new vacuum hoses this morning,
checking the timing again at 10* advance, checked each
plug for spark, topped off fluids, checked plugs for
mixture, tightened the dizzy and everything else I see.

PS Poolboy: after the final valve adjustment,
the new vacuum lines and fine tuning/replacing everything I
could get my hands on- my manifold pressure is down from 21 pounds to 19 pounds)

Here's a small video clip. Does anyone hear or
see anything wrong or anything I missed?

All advice and observations welcome.
best regards,

Dale(Tinster)

Here's the clip.

Drive it, Dale. Take your cell phone for an emergency, and DRIVE, man!

These Triumphs are too wonderful not to drive, so JUST DRIVE!

And, a very Merry Christmas to you and your family, Dale.

Thanks Mark but no cell phone coverage in the mountains.
I'm on my own with the spare parts and tools I can carry
in the trunk for dealing with breakdowns..

Merry Christmas to you and yours,

dale

Take plenty of food, water, and matches until help arrives
Really, you will be fine... engine sounds good... go for a drive!!

I would be HIGHLY concerned with 21 POUNDS of vacuum.......

Sounds like an old Hoover.

Just get in and Go! have dinner at the Beach Club in Humacao I recommend Red Snapper and mofongo. And A DQ and Coke.
It will be Fine...

Well, with that rear end weighed down that much, be careful on some of those mountaion roads! hehehehe

Tony- I've removed 150# of spares and tools.

I've never heard a "Real" TR6 run but mine seems to make
a great deal of clickety clack sound at idle.

I am a bit leery of driving the car with the top end
sounding so bad. Although it runs real smooth and
drives real strong..

any suggestions? No money for a head recondition
and no shop available to perform one- if the noise
if from a failed head.

regards,

dale

clickety-clack is the valves set at the correct setting....all MGB's do the same.

good answer, mate....

Dale, just let us know in advance and we can get Mickey to say a few "good words" for ya...

Go fer it. I drove my TR4 over mountain passes and into Yellowstone National Park this fall a couple of hundred mile trip. For the most part without cell phone service and very remote wrecker or repair services. Life is short take a chance and have some fun.

clickety-clack is what you get with solid lifters. If you don't want to listen to them, remove the muffler or turn the sound system up until the clickety-clack disappears.

Take spares. Nothing breaks unless you don't have tools or spares.

Then just get out there and ride her till she sweats.

Or we could organize a search and rescue party

All that extra load almost guarantees a failure.

Dale, I drove my spitfire over mountain passes and across praries in the DEAD OF WINTER (read that temps of-19*) and never had a problem. This was before I did anything to the engine. These are hearty cars. You have yours running like a top. My advice to you is to quit worrying and just drive the wee out of it. You live on an island for crying out load...how lost can you get?? And even if you do get lost you ain't likely to freeze to death if you do.

:iagree:

AMEN!

To quote that world famous philosopher: "Get 'er DONE!!"
