In preparation for a shopping trip...

Can someone tell me where to find an engine number on an MGA block? It's a 1600 if that matters.

Also -- is there somewhere on the web where I could get an approximate build date to go with an MGA engine number?

Thanks!

Engine number plate right below the #2&3 sparkplugs. Also look at the back of the head by the bulkhead, you want to see a raised number 16 as well. If the engine is 16gaXXXX, the head will have the big raised 16 on head, if a 15 then the
head has been swapped
