Engine in, new photos and a dire question...

Okay photos will follow my question.

Here is what we have done, reserved grounds, changed over the ignition, electric fuel pump etc., getting fuel (can see it in the clear fuel line filter), ignition, lights are working however engine is not firing, just clicking. Power is running all the way to the starter but the engine is not firing. At first thought dead battery, checked battery at Autozone, it is good although low on a charge. So it is on a charger but even with a jump from the Mini still cannot get the engine to turn over. All ignition components are new. Any idea what could be causing this or something we missed in the wiring etc? If there are any questions I could answer to help find a diagnosis lemme know.

Thanks!
(and yes I pained the brake cylinder, I hated the original yellow so I just thought whatever, I am not going for originality, sorry to diasappoint or make anyone mad)

Starter hung? Roll car back while in gear to release. (gently)

Or take a wrench to that front center shaft bolt on the starter to be sure it is not hung.

I forget about that Jack. Someone ground it off mine for some reason. ???

That engine bay looks real nice all painted up like that!!!
Only problem with painting the resevoir is that it makes it harder to check fluid level!!! Engine looks all pretty too!
Interesting fancy lettering on the valve cover /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif (Old English IS appropriate if not original! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif )

Trev
She needs to push it forward (while in 4th gear) to free the starter, pushing it backwards won't work.

Ehhh, yup what Bill said. Thanks.

Hey I was just thinking the starte solinoed (I know I messed the spelling up) was shorting out due to the previous owner not securing it properly to the car, I wonder if maybe this caused some problems, when we found out it was melting and even smoking!

Starter turns btw, just checked on lunch.

Yeah I know the fluid thing, DOH, didn't think about that!

I have no idea where that cover came from, I have a new alum. one on order that will look a lot better

BE AWARE!!! THAT beast NEEDS a good ground cable t'wixt the engine and frame. If things are smoking you MAY be grounding thru the throttle and choke cables! Not good!

Should be a braided ground strap somewheres down near the starter/bellhousing to the frame. Clean metal and good contact at both ends...

Slave bolt to just under frame rail me believe.

Or you can put one on the motor mount.

Or BOTH! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Okay just so I get this correct, I have changed the car from positive earth to negative ground. When I install the new solinoed I need to make sure it is grounded to the car even though I have changed from positive to negative?

Think you just hook it up the same way, the juice just goes the other way is all.

Rachel, the solenoid is grounded through the mounting screws, so must be bolted down securely to function properly.
And, your nice black paint on the brake fluid reservoir will soon look like tiger stripes. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Bengal or African? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

...nevermind. It'll depend on which fluid gets on it...
