engine Identification & Su identification

I puchased a 1960 bugeye basket case with an extra 1275 engine. Can I identify the year from the stamped number? The Number is 12C/DA/H29827.
Additionally I have 2 SU carbs with numbertags AUC 863. Can they be identified?

Thanks
Jim

I checked on the carbs in the Haynes "SU Carburetors" manual which has a fairly extensive applications index in the back and i did not see any listing for an AUC 6010 or any carb with the 6010 ending for that matter.

Hey Welcome. Where are you in NY.

Where are you getting that number from? Is it stamped on a small aluminum Triangular tag? Or cast in? If it is cast in it may be a part number for that specific pc. The number you need shoiuld be stamped on a small aluminum tag usuially screwed onto the float bowl.

I am on the tri state area PA NY NJ in Orange county
Thank you for the info. The carbs tags are stamped AUC863
I have been told on a forum that the engine is a 68 or 69 sprite.

I believe <span style="font-weight: bold">12C/DA/H29827</span> is a 1275 high compression Austin Healey engine that originally had a close ratio center change transmission

Thank you all so much for the feedback
Jim

12CD-DA-H21184 was produced in August 1969. 12CD-DA-H29827 was likely produced in April or May of 1970.

Ray - don't think it has a 2nd "D"

Thanks tony for the feedback. your right there is no second "D" Now , what is the significance of the high compression? and can I get an intake manifold that will accomodate the pcv issues?

PCV issues?

Positive Crankcase Ventilation?

I understand what 'PCV' stands for - I'm curious about what 'issues' he has.....

Without emissions equipment, and depending on the carbs and manifold he may need to make some modifications.

Not much to the emissions on a '68-'69...just a PCV valve sitting on top of the intake....any intake with a large opening can be used (they all have one).

True... I was thinking of the later engines. I think he is concerned that his intake doesn't match his engines or carbs.

Just for some clarification. I think the fellow I bought the bugeye from took the intake from the disassembled 948 and mounted it on the "spare" 1275 engine. Not being familiar with british engines, I noticed that the 1275 has an oil seperator mounted on the timing cover with nowhere to hook up the plumbing on the manifold or the carbs. I realize I may have to obtain a new manifold or updated carbs and that prompted the questions on what year was the engine and what year were the carbs. Hope this clears it all up.

Thanks again.
Jim

Perfectly clear. You need an intake manifold and carbs for a 1275. I think some of the 1098 intake/carbs would work too (with appropriate needles).

thank you very much.
