"engine ice" coolant

"engine ice" coolant

anyone hear of this stuff "engine ice"? spoze ta drop engine temps by 50deg. cought a blip on it on the show "two guys garage" the other day, googling will give all the info.

I've had it in my sportbike for a year now. Haven't noticed a bit of difference. The coolant can't change when the thermostat opens or when the fan kicks on. Maybe if I changed those too, it would make a difference. Then again, maybe those changes would help with normal antifreeze too. :wink:

Don't forget it is all about heat transfer. Heat into the coolant and heat out of the coolant. The "Liquid Ice" might do a better job of absorbing heat and releasing it, but if you change nothing else (i.e. your radiator remains the same, fan remains the same, thermostat remains the same)then you have limited change that can happen because it still may not be able to dump the heat out the radiator and into the airflow. I wouldn't expect more than 5 or 10 degrees by changing the coolant alone, and I'd be surprised by that much. OK, now let me have it. An oil cooler would probably do more.

Is this liquid ice similar to "water wetter"? Based on the literature, it's supposed to drop the coolant temp 20-30 degrees. Haven't tried it as yet.

Notwithstanding all the claims it sounds like propylene glycol-based anti-freeze which will, ike ethylene glycol, raise the boiling point and lower the freezing point.

Maybe I missed something but I don't see any claims on the website that it lowers temps although it does say "It will make your car faster!" I wonder if they mean faster as in "faster than if standing still while stuck along side the road"?

BTW Water Wetter is a surfactant and essentially allows the water to make better contact and theoretically provides more surface for better heat transfer.

Yep Michael, It is not like Water Wetter and its thermal conductivity as shown in their spec sheet is not much better than distilled water. Their test results yielding a 50 Deg temperature drop for Motorcycles was mot verified with suppirting data.----Keoke
