Offline
gents, as most of you know im under going a complete engine rebuild, its coming along well so far id like to know what is being used to replace the as per moss engine section part #13- "plug-felt front and rear bearing caps"? as ive been unsuccessful at finding new replacements, thanks in advance a7777. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

Came with a gasket kit I bought I think.

Yep BH is right Anthony, they are in the complete engine gasket kit they might be some little square cork bits that you trim to fit.---Keoke

Came with my gasket set also. When Moss says that something is "NA" it just means that "they" don't stock it for one reason or another.

Anthony, You musta done somthing awfully bad to our mutual friend or the parts got lost in the move or maybe it doesn't matter how you get felt.---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

it's about time you bought from someone who actually delivers the part. isn't it a nice change of pace?

shg, i got both kits from our mutual friend same as the moss ones just spoke to moss they no longer include them in either maybe keokes got a different moss out by him? i ordered mine from healey surgeons, when they told me they had them ya cant imagine how relieved i "felt" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Well I just told you what them Moss folks say on their on line catalog Anthony, an I know you can't believe everything you read. OTOH, My parts bin is stocked with NOS gasket kits in the Circus Circus boxes and I don't need to go looking to get felt. Similarly, I do not know where Greg gets felt either, but he says it is good!---Keoke

Be careful installing them.

If you trim them flush they'll receed into the groove and leak. I suggest soaking them in oil for awhile and leave a little sticking out before installing the bearing cap. How do others install them?

I installed them the same as you, except they were liberally soaked with Permatex Aviation sealer instead of oil.

PS - At least on my BN2, I don't see where the felt plugs are actually accomplishing much. The main cap to block joints are actually covered & well sealed by the engine's front & back plate gaskets. The bottom of the joints are sealed by the pan gasket. Are the sixes different?

Thanks Anthony, lots of little tricks I've learned over the years. My favorite uncle was an engine rebuilder/mechanic/racer for many years during the 40's and 50's.

Dave, no I don't think the sixes are that much different other than having two more cylinders. I suppose they are more of an "oil wick" than anything else.
