Engine color - REVISED

Re: Engine color

Hmmm,I thought it was that drab metallic green like used on the big healeys.

Re: Engine color

Not the dark Olive green, but a lighter green flat colour.

Re: Engine color

My '70 was the Healey green (but I do not know if it was original), and now it is black.

Re: Engine color

i think black, with the engine compartment the color of the car....i went just the opposite /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif red/orange on black!

Re: Engine color

I heard a story from a friend who was at a Healy convention years ago and Healy was there when origonal paint colors came up. Healy started to laugh, he said, you don't understand the way these cars were built. We bought paint 25 and 50 gal. lots. When we got to the bottom, we mixed the old with the new for the next car, and went wityh the next batch after that. Its your car enjoy.

Re: Engine color

My 70' engine was green - I changed it to black!

Re: Engine color

Painting an engine then....
What's the best way to do it? I mean there are lots of holes that are not easy to mask to get a clean line. Is a pot and brush the best tehnique?
For those that have done it, obviously it's best to do it out of the car, but has anybody done with the motor still in?

Re: Engine color

A '70 should be green. The usual suspects have it in rattle cans. The RWA cars with a 12V engine is when they went to black.
Baz, take a look here for in place engine painting. https://www.teglerizer.com/midgetstuff/engine.htm In my opinion it is easier to pull the engine and paint it since degreasing is a real pain in place.

Re: Engine color

I did mine in gold as the replacement engines for them were goldseal and were painted gold

Re: Engine color

pull it....i used 500 degree Dupont paint....
over 500 miles and it looks fine so far...
ill be pulling it again soon and ill do a
touch up and paint some of the things i
missed the first time.......z

Re: Engine color

Several POs ago, the bay was painted black in a red car. Not a big deal but re-painting the bay red will be a monster, so I'll probably paint the motor aluminium and keep the bay black.
It messes with my 'stock' rule, but for show purposes, the judges at the local shows don't have a clue anyway.
If I get that tub from Drew, then I can start over!
Is truck bed liner paint OK in an engine bay?

Re: Engine color

Baz only the orginal paint is OK. However, as this is your driver feel free to use what ever. Why truck bed stuff though. It gets no wear in there and is only used to keep things clean and rust free.

Baz if you are not going to sand blast etc etc. Just clean it up real good with a wire wheel and degreaser and use gloss black rustolum rattle can. Use tape to keep it where it needs to be.

Yeah, the next step after bed liner is bondo, so I'll put in a few more hours and get it right, right, right.
You're not a yoda fer nothing are you jack, keep me straight.
