Is it desirable/advantageous to use the original lift eye fittings when pulling/installing the engine and transmission as an assembly? Are there other lift points that can be used just as well? Also, I have an adjustable spreader bar for my engine hoist so I can angle the engine/transmission for removal and installation. Is the Obderg cable tilt lift superior to the standard spreader bar like I have?
Thanks,
Steve Baker

I installed my engine and tranny as a unit with a generic screw type leveler using the original lifting eyes with no problems.

I use a screw leveler with two lifting straps, one behind the front engine plate and one right in front of the bellhousing. Very stable and easy.

edit: of course, the hard part is lifting the car vertically :congratulatory:. Sorry, phone upload came that way.

Screw lifts are fine, but make sure yours is sturdy. At least on a TR4 the stab angle is pretty steep, I almost got into trouble with a cheap leveler when the handle started to come loose but I made it through the operation.

edit2: the original lift points are fine too, but as you can see I pulled the engine last time without the head in place. I didn't want to attach to a head stud to pull the engine and don't recommend you do so if the head is off - too much stress potential on the stud. Those slings are cheap and easy to use as an alternative.
