Empty nest....

Spent the whole day moving our "baby" into his first apartment. Although it's a really exciting time for him, I can't help feeling a little teary eyed when I hear the echos when I walk past his now empty room. Wow, I didn't think it would be this hard!

Do what my parents did, and make a hobby room quickly before he has a chance to even have a second thought about moving back in... Hehehehehehehehehe

Oh, once I get past the initial blues...I'm moving all my sewing stuff into it so I will have a quilting room this summer. I can't wait! I won't have to pack everything up every evening and put it all away so we can eat dinner.
Imagine trying to work in a garage that you had to park another car in every night. Before you can begin work you have to unpack all your tools, move your car in, work for a while and then move everything back out so the garage could be used for its "real" purpose every evening.
This is how I have been quilting for years in my dining room....maybe if I don't have to spend and hour preparing and another picking up every evening I'll actually work on it more often!!

Just as an "aside": We have a 14 year-old, and a 9-month-old... Both girls. I'm gonna be teary eyed when either of them move out too. I do understand. :cryin:

Isn't it funny how we work so hard for this day?
We have been covered up with furniture that I have refused to get rid of because I was saving for this day. A couch, chairs, tables, lamps, dishes.....you name it I have kept it for the past six or seven years because I knew this day would come. I have cursed how our home looks like its waiting for a garage sale.
Today when we got back home, our house literally echoes with its emptiness...and I don't think its just the furniture.

Furniture and "things" come and go like the wind.

Memories of your children growing up and maturing to move on last forever. This is just the beginning of phase two of the process, so sit back and enjoy the show. With just a little more room this time!!

Hehe! Empty-nest syndrome is really tough to deal with, but time helps!! My oldest just got his discharge from the USAF, and now that my wife and I have gotten used to our empty nest, we are going to have to re-adjust (at least hopefully only for a short while!!) while he re-enters civilian life!

When you said empty nest, I presumed you sold one of your cars!! LoL

Don't worry, they all come back at least once. Ask me how I know.....
