Emissions Removal Question

In removing the canisters and lines in the 79 Midget what should I do with the vapor line that runs from the separator in the trunk to the front canister?

Why are you removing your canisters? They have absolutely now effect on performance and are easily rebuildable with couple of coffee filters and some filter charcoal from an aquarium supply shop.

All they do is recover gasoline vapor and vapors from the engine block.

Reason for asking was thats the only line left - I guess the PO removed the rest when he installed the weber and with the dual HS4 set-up the purge lines aren't needed as the valve cover ties into either side of the intake manifold. Guess I can cap those line leave the vapor line in place. Any info on refurbishing the canisters?

Maybe you can tee the line from the separator into the manifold vent line. You would need some kind of flash/backfire arrestor to be safe. Hmmm. Hopefully someone smarter than me will comment on this.

I was all set to hook mine up when I realized that there was no vent on the fuel tank and the line and hoses and that metal round thing in the trunk was for nothing.

I actually put all mine back on. The prospect of fuel fumes from the gas tank and overflow from the float bowls erred me to the side of something resembling safety.
I doubt they really do any harm all connected up right with fresh charcoal.
I can't see it robbing the motor of breath or HP.

After looking at the Midget drivers manual and HS4 parts diagrams I think I'll have to add an extra tee to go from the valve cover to the front canister as all the dual HS4 diagrams only show the valve cover teeing into each side of the intake manifold...... ?

Rebuilt the charcoal cansister on my 76 Midget today. Easy to do. The procedure on Tony's website worked well.
