Emergency hood/bonnet release

I installed one in a total restoration and used it right away because the brand new hood release cable broke. I installed the one like Macy sells. A friend made up one like is shown here in this thread. Both work and are really cheap insurance.

I used the TRF kit. Make sure you install the stop so you can't overrun the latch when you pull on the cable. My friend pulled the emergency cable on a TR6 in a dealer's showroom in Florida and it had no stop. We had a helluva time fixing the problem while avoiding the eyes of the dealer. I now use the stock cable as the backup. The problem arises because these cars were originally right hand drive and the cable came straight through the firewall. On our cars, the cable snakes around the engine compartment and can develop kinks, etc. Not a great - but typically British - system.
 
Interesting that they moved it for the TR6, the TR4A (and I assume Tr4) have the knob on the right side.
