I was trying to reconnect wiring the DPO had disconnected. This included the console with radio and hazard switch. I pulled the switch out to see the terminal numbers better (getting old ya know)There are 8 positions but no lugs at several. So when I refer to the wiring diagram it shows wires connecting to non-existant lugs, and the wiring diagram is not the same configuration as the numbers on the switch. They do not appear to have broken off (no ragged edges of copper) I'm sorry I do not have the switch with me today, but has anybody had a similar switch. I believe for example the GR wires in the diagram goes to #6 my switch has no lug at 6 but a lug at 8???????? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif
 
I’m doing some of this by memory, but looking at the switch, terminal 1 at lower right(edit), terminal 8 upper left(edit):

8 Lug – 6 lug – Wire ID
1-1-G
2-2-G
3-None
4-3-GW
5-4-No Wire
6-None
7-5-LGN
8-6-GR

I don’t know if that makes sense or not to you. Let me know.
 
Nope not my switch,

mine is

8(lug)-7(lug)
6(no Lug)-5(empty)
4(empty)-3(lug)
2(lug)-1(lug)

The wire diagram says
1 green
2 green
3 green white
4 no wire
5 light green brown
6 Green red
7 no wire
8 no wire

So you can see my problem,
 
I got the numbering sequence wrong - sorry - see my edits on the previous post. What wire colors do you have in the car (in reality, not from the diagram)?
 
Ok I see, there are two switches, a 6 lug and an 8 lug. Mine is a 6 lug. I will follow your numbers cause the diagram is for an 8 lug switch. thanks Chris
 
Woodie, what's the vehicle number? There were several different wiring configurations for the hazard switch over the years. Not to mention that the terminal numbers changed.

Its a 1970 Mk3,, serial nos is GANAU83067. The wiring diagram is from the shop manual that came with the car in 1970. Yup original shop manual.
 
Just in case you need it, here's what the wires do:

light green-brown is the power feed (always hot)
Green-red and Green-white go to the indicator lamps (one is left, one is right, IIRC)

The two other green wires are a pass-through for the turn signal switch. They're only connected when the hazard switch is off. If the PO had the hazard switch out, he may have jumped the wiures somewhere to get the turn signals to work. I don't know if this might cause some funky hazard operation or not.
