TR2/3/3A elongated cages and nuts 57 tr3

There are elongated cages (Moss # 802-095 ) for the captive nuts on the rear fenders of my TR3. Problem being the standard nuts (Moss # 310-165) offered are too small and will fall through the slots in the fenders. Anyone have a part # and source for larger square nuts for these cages?

I don't have a supplier, but I did run into the same problem. I ended up crimping in the sides of the cages to retain the nuts. They would still fall through the oval hole if I shook the fender too much, but they held enough to get the fender into position and start the bolts.

Wish I had better news!?!

You could always buy some square stock and make your own ... I made a couple of square nuts last weekend (though not for a Triumph).

I'm always on the lookout for something I can make into something else. For cheap bar stock (less than the weldable stock in with the angle iron) try cyclone fence end strips. 3' by 1/2" by 1/4" for about $3 at Home Depot. Just note, they are zinc plated if you are welding.

HD also has some much heavier bar stock, sold for concrete form stakes. It's unfortunately drilled for nails about every 6" and tapers to a point at one end, but still good for some projects. About 3/8" by 2" by 40", ISTR paying under $8 last time I bought some. No zinc plating, but the mill scale provides some minimal rust protection.

The only welding should be on the cage, not the nut. I had to weld zinc coated steel years ago working on the Southern Pacific on coastal Oregon. It sucks and the RR really didn't care. They suggested avoiding the fumes or your blood will turn green, or some other color. I don't recall.
