I went to see this cycle/car today. It actually was better than my expectations. They showed a prototype and I was told there would be some minor changes before production. The back seat was roomy... not like my daily driver, but certainly adequate.
Not a replacement for the daily driver, but $6,800 new is an attractive price to have in the garage.

Interesting. I noticed they are looking to buy the old GM plant in Shreveport, my home town.
 
Nifty. I watched the video... about a fully caged cockpit and 3 air-bags. 84 mpg! Might be a nice city run-about. Thanks Elliot.

Mickey- According to the guy from Elio Motors, they already have it and that's where production will take place. Their aim is to be 100% USA made.
 
The power plant will be a 3-cylinder 5-speed made for them by IVA.... anybody heard of them?
 
I couldn't get over all the "senior citizens" that had showed up wanting to know when they can get their hands on the car... these people had given them a non-refundable $1,000 deposit. I would have never guess that this type of car would appeal to this crowd. Go figure.
 
Cool that you made it to see the car, Elliot. I'm still hoping that they'll bring their road show to UT later this year.

And yes, I did go in for a spot in line to buy one (at a low level). I love the idea, and want them to succeed, so I went in. Don't know ultimately if I will buy one (assuming they go into production) but I thought it was an interesting enough idea to give them my support.

Here in Monroe LA. about 100 mile east of Shreveport we just went through the same thing. A small car company was going to take over the GM Guide plant. They started all kinds of remodeling, city and Parrish officials to pass tax increases before they got federal funding. They got local votech schools to gear to help in training. Then it went bust. They also had a prototype to show off. Hope this one fairs better.

I'm familiar with IVA engines but the IVA I know about is not a manufacturer.The IVA I'm familiar with stands for Intelligent Valve Actuation. It's a technology where the engine has no cam shaft(s); instead, the valves are controlled by actuators that take their orders from the ECU. The technology is still developing as engineers try to solve problems like valve seating velocity control.
 
Looks like I transposed the letters... sheeesh! The name of the drive train supplier is IAV ... sorry for the confusion.
