Hello there everyone i have a MG-B and am looking at an electronic system off the internet some thing called 'powerspark' has any one used or know about them seams ok for under £30 and free p&p

I have only one data point on this. There was a posting a few months back, I think in the Spridgets forum, by a guy who bought one and couldn't get it to work. But that could have been pilot error, for all I know.

I have to say, I was intrigued when I first saw these, but I think I'd prefer a Pertronix. A few bucks (or, for you, quid) more, but it's proven. That has value.
 
i have read that all the kits are nearly the same only thing with petronix is they just charge loads i can gt three of these kits for the price of one of theres so i have a couple spare just incase.

I've been running an Allison electronic ignition (now Crane XR-700 I believe) for 20 years on my GT without it ever skipping a beat or needing adjustment. By the way, how old is your car? The older ones (i.e. probably around 1967 and earlier) have tachometers that won't work with electronic ignition without modification.
 
I've got pertronix in my '74 that has never even burped. I like it. I just got a bunch of parts and in it were 2, XR-700's. Never used them but if you have for 20 years that's seems pretty good. I put another pertronix in a '65 and the tach did not work. My first lesson in that area. What needs to be modified in order to get it to work?
 
i have no idea the name of the one i put in my wifes B about 2 years ago but the cost was about the same in dollars, also off of ebay..has been problem free..left the points and cond in the trunk just in case (that's why it hasn't broken)

I believe that one of the guys who put this together sells circuit boards or will do a complete conversion.
 
If your gonna go that far , might as well put in one of the new dizzy's that are popping up lately.
Yous MG guys (and gals) don't have to worry about tack drives.

I'm not sure what you mean Don. The new dizzys don't work with the old tachs.
 
I mean other manufacturers like 123,Mallory,Pertronix, that kind.
Now I'm not an MG guy but they make em for your cars I would think

The RVI rev-counters (electronic tachometers) used in older British cars won't work properly with electronic triggering. Well, mine "works", with Pertronix, but it's very jumpy and erratic. I will get it rebuilt one of these days.

Actually I have a tach drive in my '63 and have pertronix. Figured I'd need to do the same I need to on the '65 and modify it to work correctly. I rarely use the tach unless I'm flogging the snot out of it and really only do that with my '74. Gotta redline it as much as possible. :smile:
 
Funny that no one in England was talking about the new Accuspark. They look very good and the rotor they sell is much better than original.
AS far as I know we don't have a distributor in USA as of yet.

Why yes, yes they do. Here's an item from their FAQ:

Yes, by far most of the tachometers work in combination with a 123ignition.
RVI type tachometers manufacturedby the Smiths Company, will not work properly though.

We have found two companies that offer solutions to this problem. They use the existingrev.counter to replace the electronics with another printed circuit board.
In the UK this is done by JDO-instruments ( www.jdo1.com ), and from the Netherlands
this is done by CASU-Utrecht ( www.casu.nl )

Should be the same for Triumphs, though your '71, like my MG, is just new enough to not have a problem.
 
Don't matter on our TR's they used a cable to turn the tach.
Cept mine has been converted and a Mallory is in the dizzy hole.
Thanks for the info as my bro has a B and I always like to keep 1 up on him
