Need your input please. I am interested in purchasing an electronic ignition for my BJ7. Which is preferred, the Petronix or the Crane?

Thanks,

Ray

Ray, I prefer the Pertronix unit because of its simplicity, ease of installation,no excessive wiring running around in the engine compartment and good value for the money.--FWIW---Keoke Plus you can switch back to points as quick as a /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ray I have a pertronix in my BT7 and it works just great, I also have one in my 1965 Ford truck that I pull the Kart racing trailer with and it has worked flawlessly for over 5 years now. Skip

If you are not concerned with original appearance and want to avoid the problems associated with Lucas caps and rotors check out Mallory's product. They have two electronic systems--the Maglite and Unilite. Century Performance offers Unilite model #4767801 with vacuum advance--not sure how their tach drive models work but check it out at: www.centuryperformance.com and see the model for either TR6 or Jags w/out fuel injection. They work on our cars. BTW Century's prices are way below that asked by Moss for Mallory stuff.

Ray, I use the Pertronix in combination with a Mallory dis and had no problems with it since using it for a year now.

Advantages: all the prementioned advantages plus a good availability for spares like dis cap and rotor for reasonable prices. Mallory dis is a quick and easy replacement installation, even for a amateur mechanic like me and the whole thing can be reverted in less than an hour.

Disadvantage: not the original look, but see advantages....

I bought the Mallory from Denis Welch in the UK. He delivers it with an additional, strengthened drive dog at extra cost.

Regards

Thanks for the input. It would appear that the petronix is the brans of choice.

Hope to get the big boy shipped to Florida in January. Can't wait to fire the engine for the first time.

Ray

I prefer the Crane because of its reliability. 20 years or so now.
