electric heater

Has anyone ever thought of using an elect. heater in our spridgets. I see these small 12 volt heaters that are light weight and can be wired into the car, it just seems like it would save alot of plumbing and weight to use one. thoughts anybody.

I wouldn't even consider one unless you have upgraded to an alternator. I don't have a heater installed so I installed a period option Lucas defrost bar with heating coils inside of it to deal with fog and ice on the windshield.

why would you? I got my rad rebuilt and cleaned the heater rad unit really well and I have a ton of heat - to the point that I was warm with the top down at 27 deg.

Why would I? Well let see I can get rid of rad. to heater box plumbing, get rid of water valve and hose ot the heater box, long duct from front of car to blower the hair dryer to the heater box, cable from dash to duct on the hair dryer just to name a few and the best reason of all is "heck why not" LOL.

Before using one, I'd check on the amount of current it draws. I'll bet its a lot. I agree, don't even think about it unless you have an alternator.

Your feet are the last thing to get cold in a Midget. maybe I should run the exhaust pipe inside the car LOL. I already have an upgraded alt. so no trouble there, mostly I was just curious as other people just do away with the heater completely .

My 2 cents worth. It could be done but I would install a second alternator if doing this and keep it simple. In no way would I tie it in to the primary electrical system.

More than once the ability to turn a heater on was appreciated when an engine got a little hot.
