Electric fan woes

Hi all
I purchased an aluminum radiator and a Spal fan to go with it for my TR4A. The radiator comes with the brackets welded on. It is an OEM radiator and bolts right in. I was under the assumption that it would fit with the old fan still in place but there is no way. I was told I could remove the old fan but it will still rub. Can the fan hub extension be taken off if a shorter crank bolt is used? Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions? The top brackets are the main culprits as they seem short and put a cant on the radiator.

Thanks

The hub extension can be removed, but you need a fill piece to be sure that the new bolt clamps only against the hub rather than coming up against the end of the crank nose. I made a fill piece from an old cast iron pipe cap; or I believe there are several vendors that sell more sophisticated pieces that bolt to the hub.

If the electric fan is to be used as an auxiliary I would just install it as a pusher, and leave your stock fan alone. I have the Hayden fan on my -4A set up this way. Cheers.
