Electric fan woes

Ain't NEVER gonna put no electric radiator fan
in my Triumph. NEVER!!!

Bumper to bumper, Friday afternoon traffic, inside a dark
expressway tunnel, The Mrs" fancy Jeep says "dink, dink".

That's it. A one time "dink, dink". Heck if I knew what
that was about. So I checked all the gauges- temp gauge
buried in the red. And we're inside a freakin tunnel!!

Turned the heater on full blast and 10 minutes later we're
out of the tunnel and parked on the roadside. Two sweating
pigs. It musta been 140*F inside the Jeep.

20 minutes later I pop the hood, the temp is down to just
under critical, and I crank the engine. Water and oil levels
are full up.The bloody electric fan sitting there dead as stone.

Opened the windows and sunroof, cranked the heater full blast
and drove/sat 1 1/2 hours in bumper to bumper and limped home.
The heater core and blower fan acting as my radiator and cooling fan.

Dale;
Just a guess on my part, but likely the little sensor in the cooling system that tells the fan to come on when the temp. gets too high.
Sorry about your experience.

Dave

Yeah Dave, my thoughts as well.

Something in the fan area is making a hard "clicking" sound
at like two or three seconds intervals. It seems like the fan
wants to turn on but doesn't. The A/C stopped making cold air
right before the temp went sky high.

We've an excellent auto A/C repair shop around the corner.
Monday the Jeep goes in.

regards to the womenfolk.

Exactly why I put mine on my M.H. on a switch on the dash. I turn it on when I want it on and off when I want it off.
But then I`m the only one that drives it so there is little chance of forgetting to turn it on after warm up. Besides in that BEAST one has to monitor ALL guages at All times to ensure that nothing is about go go south. One thing you don`t want to do is pay a towing bill to get your M.H. to the nearest place that will work on it. If you do have to have it towed, it puts a serious dent in your wallet!

Dale: Go to Pep Boys and get a Haynes manual for the Jeep. It should have a decent electrical diagram. When you find the temp sensor that needs to be replaced (and replace it) you might consider wiring a switch in parallel with the sensor. That way if this ever happens again, at least you can manually switch on the fan. You can hide the switch under the dash. Many of our TR friends do this routinely. If you need help give me a call.
