Electric Fan vs. Texas Cooler

Doug
i assume you mean the NAPA cap. it was 703-1411. i had a cap from Moss on there that i added a rubber seal on the bottom. it would not draw the coolant back in to the radiator. may have been my seal... too thick or thin? don't know. but the NAPA one did the trick. and was about 7 bucks i think.

i am not sure of the bottle size. i bought this one from Moss with the cap and the rubber ring. i believe it came to about 21 bucks with shipping. i think i tried to fill the bottle at one point and it was about 33 oz. somewhere around a qrt. i think the old windshield washer bottle i used was about 18oz. from what i could see after adding the new cap, i needed at least 24 oz.

it worked out well the bottle fits tight in the hole in the frame. you can tuck it down out of the way a bit. you could virtually hide it if you so chose. there were two factory bolts that went in to the floor board on that side i assume were used if the car is right hand drive. the nuts are welded on the inside. i took out the top one and made a little bracket that comes over and goes around the bottle under the brace. So i can just drop the bottle down in and did not have to drill new holes.

when the engine is cold there is about an inch of coolant in the bottom. and, at it's hottest, the bottle gets about 2/3 full.

with the NAPA cap and the bottle the coolant fills the radiator totally. No more 1" or 1/2" air pocket at the top of the radiator. Can't say it makes the car run any cooler but i do think it helps keep the gauge more consistent. May be just me though. And i would think keeping air out of the system is better for keeping rust out of the system.

I have both an electric fan and a Texas Healey Cooler on my 1957 100/6.
The electric fan, as a pusher, is connected to a thermostatic sensor and also has a manual switch under the dash.
Italy can be a very sunny place in summer and traffic can be slow and a queue can occur even on the highway.
In rebuilding my AH I paid a lot of attention to preventing overheating, and I also added an oil cooler. (I am a maniac! Full-blown.) :wink-new:
