Electric choke-MG Midget 1978 Single Weber

I removed the water choke because I was having hard starting in the heat-thought it would remove some of the heat. Also installed a thick gasket between the carb and the manifold-this seems to have fixed the problem. Had a electric choke for the Weber so I hooked it up with a wire(in line fuse) that was activated by the key on on. All seems to be working well-choke opens and closes as it should-some heat from the choke but not as much as the water choke. Anything else? thanks Jim

Sounds like you have it. You can adjust the dial to set the kick off point but if I recall, around 12 to 1 o'clock is pretty good. How thick is the spacer you installed? I don't have room between the air cleaner and the hood for any more height. In fact, the cleaner bumps the hood (bonnet) a bit when I shut it down as it is.

Thanks-the electric choke seems to work well-is that the history? Spacer is about 3/8th of an inch. Cleared ok pierce manifold. Jim

Yup, I think the Pierce is supposed to be a little deeper than the Cannon... That said, there are (at least) two thicknesses of (DGV) chrome filter, so those with clearance problems can run the thinner one. I think it's 1 3/4" or so, from memory...

I'm running the 1 3/4" filter but on a cannon manifold. It clears normally but when the engine rocks on shutdown, it thumps the hood a bit. Might have to seek out a pierce manifold.
