Has anybody been watching the 1979 brown Spitfire on Ebay,the one with "10K" miles on it. Its represented as an original car. Granted it is a nice car, but the seller spends time implying that he just did minor work to make it roadworthy,but basicaly its unmolested as factory. He some how forgot to mention that it has been repainted and the seats have been re-done. I sent him a question concerning those issues,he responded that it WAS original,....except that he just clear coated it and redid the seats. He also forgot to post my question on the auction, and I am betting other questions as well.
I repeat..it is a nice car,but if I were looking for an original factory Spitfire and bought this one as represented, I would be MAD. I dont think he can hide behind the argument that he revieled this info to those who asked,because many people would not know to ask those questions from the look of the car.
Yes, this is Ebay and I should not get upset,...but...hey.

Yeah, there's also a red "'57" TR3, but it's clearly an A. The VIN the seller uses is a body number - even has a photo of the commission plate with the proper VIN, which makes it a '58. The plate says it has overdrive, but I don't think that's mentioned. It looks like it might be a fairly decent car, but...

I sent a note to them, informing them of the discrepancies, but it was ignored. In my note, I said I was trying to be helpful, and intimated that if they presented the car with the proper description, etc., it would be a better listing. The car has been relisted twice, with no changes to the listing. Each time, the high bid is less and less.

Some widemouth, or TR3A, cars were made in '57. I used to have one, TS 22312L. It was made in September or October of '57. The first widemouth was TS 22014.

I like to call these widemouth because the data plate on these cars says TR3, not TR3A.

But others call them TR3A. I'm not saying they're wrong.

One of the ways to get a good deal on ebay is to watch close for poor listings, especially ones with bad photos. I bought a Dodge conversion van a couple years ago with pictures that made the interior look purple. I emailed and got the seller to send additional photos that showed it to be a nice shade of blue. He also had 1 shot of the side of the van with the temporary spare on! I got a 2000 Dodge extended conversion van with 55,000 miles in near perfect condition for $4500 in late 2004. Oh yeah, and the cost of 1 tire. Still drive it today.

All I am trying to say, Mickey, is that the guy might not be intentionally misrepresenting the car. He might be like me and calls it a TR3. Or he might have looked at the data plate and saw TR3 there. Or he might not know that there is a difference between TR3 and TR3A.

But, in any case, he should have responded to your e-mail!
