Ebay Find

I'm watching that little puppy dawg!

The cage puts it atleast 10 years more or back, no front side bars, VIR re opened in 2000, so the claim it raced there before is probably not exactly correct, unless it was back before it closed down in the 70s the first time. I've never saw that car, but of course I don't see them all, but it my business to know them. I've been fairly active in the SARRC series since 2000 as either a crew or a driver, and driven atleast a dozen SCCA nationals and regionals at VIR since 2000 and never laid eyes that car.

That thing is a rock, add potatoes, some carrots, onions, and celery, and you got soup

I want the mirror!

D'ya think it might be a "heat shield" ? I liked the "(mis)matched" set of wheels! That is a cool mirror!

Ha! I'd be amused too if it was plywood but I suspect it is aluminum or steel plate acting as a scatter shield in case clutch parts or the flywheel were to get loose at high rpm. In the SCCA, a scatter shield is mandatory, let alone good protection for the driver, as clutches can "explode" and/or flywheel bolts can break.

Ray,

I agree this scatter shield appears excessively thick. Obviously I don't know what the material is, but I do recognize the function. I will say that if it is a steel plate, it is excessively heavy and thus the reason I suspect it is a pretty hefty piece of aluminum. Even then, it appears to be overkill.

Tony,

I have to agree with Hap. I believe this race car has been retired for quite some time. It also looks like it sat neglected and has deteriorated significantly since it was last raced. I'd be leery of buying this car and if I were to buy it, it'd have to be stripped completely for extensive inspection and likely some metal replacement.

There is no doubt the roll cage will need quite a bit of work if not outright removal and replacement. I find it hard to believe the curly-Q top front section of roll cage adds much at all to the overall safety of the vehicle.

In the ad, I note there is nothing said about the suspension, and no definitive pictures especially of the rear suspension. The front appears near stock which again leads me to believe this car has been out of service for quite some time.

A seller on eBay recently sold two brand new mirrors like that.

Yep, when Hap speaks, I listen! I've already taken it off my watch list!
