Has anybody seen this yet? Might be a diamond in the rough. It is pick-up only but my brother lives fairly close by! Seller says for AH Sprite, but it has a Morris label on the valve cover, and it looks like the clutch fork is on the left side! Judging by the carbs and the smmoth-case it must be a 948

Re: ebay eng. & trans

Mike, this looks to be an identical setup to the one I picked up two weeks ago. As far as I have been able to identify mine, without tearing it down, it's a "big crank" 1098.
From the pictures of the one on eBay, it appears to be set up for an electric fuel pump, and a mechanical clutch release, ala Morris.

Re: ebay eng. & trans

This looks to me like a common Morris Minor setup but with Bugeye dual carbs. Probably 948 (no PCV valve and the hand crank adapter, as well as a road tube dropping from the side cover). Beware that the MM engines had only one cam bearing whereas (I think) the early Sprite engine had all three.

Re: ebay eng. & trans

You're probably right, Bill. I didn't look at the carbs, and missed the road draft tube. Must be my advanced age.
The early, 9C Sprite engines only had one cam bearing.

Is Morss with different carbs.

Re: ebay eng. & trans

I've gone the 1275 route and have a couple of extras in storage to boot, so I am not really interested in it, but I thought it might be a good deal for someone at the price (if it doesn't get bid up astronomically) since it is what looks to be a pretty complete engine AND a smoothcase trans as well!

If any one needs someone to look at this Southhampton is only 25 min from my house.
