Don't forget to get new lifters to go with it and make sure you read the message about modern motor oils.

Personally, if I were repalcing a cam, I would, at the least, put in the next "wilder" grind from stock. (I guess I suscribe to the more HP the better motto.) It's a lot of trouble to repalce a cam, so there otta be some reward.
 
If you need a new stock cam why not?

a good core and sending off to Elgin might be more better.

Elgin? Very likely a reference to D. Elgin Cams in Redwood City, CA. I have not used them myself yet but have only heard good things about them. (partial to race cams from APT) You can view Elgin Cams website at:

Dema Elgin does very nice cam and lifter work. He's done all of my race cams for quite awhile.
Even for the 1500, when I was running the Spit.

Wierd! While trying decipher JerryB's cryptic reply to my post, I Googled "Meatball Cam Company." The search produced this post. Creepy, huh?
 
Why not get a 1300 cam and put the 1300 cam bearings in your 1500 block, that's what I do with 1500s. The 1300 cam journals are smaller and your 1500 block will accepte the 1300 cam bearing without any modifications, it's a smart move with a 1500.
 
I am interested in doing that. Do you know of an affordable and realiable resource for the 1300 cam?

Well I don't know if good and cheap exist with cams and lifters. I would look into having APT do a billet for you and get lifters from Performance Research in Oregon. This will not be cheap, but this is one area whre cheap will bite you in the butt, better off to get the very best stuff and never have to worry about it again. Too many people tearing down 2500 mile rebuilds with bad cams and lifters to go with anything but the "high road".
